Arcade Games

Arcade games can typically be found in restaurants, pubs, arcades, movie theaters and many other public areas. There are so many different types of arcade games, golf games, football games, and Mr. or Mrs. Pac man (which happen to be two of my favorites).

Arcade games are basically computers that are programmed for a specific game, and they have joysticks, buttons, and many other sets of controls that usually depend on which game it has been designed for. There are almost five thousand different arcade games, that's a lot of games.

What was once just an afternoon of fun and sometimes kids skipping classes has now reached a level where people make a full time living playing arcade games. They play in tournaments and win money if they place in the top positions. People also train other individuals on how to compete in these tournaments and of course they charge a nominal fee for there time. There was even a movie about these tournaments back in the 80's when arcade games were extremely popular. Now there are more Xbox, Playstation, and Nintendo tournaments then there are arcade tournaments.

Believe it or not history of arcade games dates back to the early 20th century amusement park games, for example jukeboxes, mechanical fortune tellers and even shooting galleries.

Most arcade games are adrenaline driven thrillers by design. As most console games have more of a story line built in. Reason being is arcade games are coin driven systems that are designed to let you have fun but also to make money as well. They usually have short levels, simple controllers, increasing levels of difficulty and iconic characters.

I remember as a kid playing Pac Man with my cousin at the local arcade in our neighborhood we would literally spend hours competing for the highest score, and we usually spent our entire allowance in that time, but it was definitely worth it. Those were the days of no worries other than playing arcade games and feeling like you were on top of the world when you became the champion. Once we mastered Pac Man we then moved on to one of the shooting games and then to the racing games. I loved the racing game that had the actual shift, because I felt that I was actually driving, and I even believed that I would be able to drive without any problems at all. Those were the days.
